Barney's
Band

Barney's band was first formed in 1978 as a 'scratch' band for a
church barn dance and has been going ever since. Barn dances include circle,
longways, square and couple dances from the English tradition, danced to tunes
from the repertoire which is common to most parts of the British Isles plus
others which suit the tempo and length of dance concerned.
The instruments played are widely varied, and
include : fiddle, viola, cello, and double bass; flute and piccolo; recorders;
clarinet, soprano and alto saxophones; melodica; cornet/trumpet, trombone,
tenor horn, and Bb brass bass; oboe; piano, glockenspiel, accordion; guitar,
banjo, ukelele, and bass guitar; washboard, bodhran, and drums.
We practise every month on a Saturday morning
in the Supper Room in the Church Hall, from 10.15 to 12.15, and play for barn dances in the Church Hall each year, as well as for special occasions
such as weddings.
Entry to the band is at Grade IV or its
equivalent, and all ages are welcome. We have music (!), including music
for transposing instruments. Our membership includes members from other
local churches.
The leadership team are:
Ray Durant, Briony
Watkinson, Melanie Downs, and Adrian Bull (01642 817040).
