The next generation

By now many people will know a lot about what we do at Next but we thought we’d give you all a clearer picture of our group.

Next is a ‘fresh expression of Church’ for 18-30 year olds within St. Barnabas Church. We’re dedicated to exploring what following Jesus means in the 21^st Century and building a real and lasting Christian community for young adults in the Boro.

The group is almost 3 years old now and currently has 18 regulars (we’re seeing steady growth in numbers at the moment). The ways we worship are pretty diverse and generally informal but we are a St Barnabas group and hold to the same core beliefs.
We have a rotating leadership team who plan activities and every member is encouraged to take a role in aspects of leading worship. These themes also run through our midweek Cell Groups which have been running for 2 years.

Our aim is to be open about what we do at Next, but understand the problems of communicating things clearly. Hopefully this short introduction will help.

Next is constantly evolving to meet the needs of our members and to keep our worship focussed on God. This is probably all a bit confusing if you don’t fall within our age limit, so here is an overview of our core events.

Next (Sundays 8pm) – This is the hub of our activities. A usual session includes worship, Bible study, prayer and time to discuss how to apply what we learn about God’s plan. We sometimes have socials or take time to plan other events.
Cell Groups (2 midweek groups) – We use a similar pattern to the Life Groups and meet every week.
Fresh (coming soon) – The multi-Church worship event ran by Next which is taking over from Kairos (previously ‘café Church’).

6:30 Sunday Service (bi-monthly) – Every other month we are given the honour of leading the Sunday 6:30 Service. All ages welcome!

Serving Church and community – Our chance as a group to respond to God’s grace through action. Roughly once a month we find somewhere that needs volunteers or decorating. If you have any good ideas or want to help out then please say.

God is calling us all to deeper relationship and to unashamed obedience to His perfect will. Life in its fullness is sometimes counter-cultural so please pray for our group as we push toward that goal.
