I’d love to invite you to join us on Saturday 23rd June for our Encounter Day. We’ll be taking the opportunity to gather as a whole church family, from across our 5 services, for this special day. As we continue in the vacancy, this time of waiting, the Encounter Day offers us the chance to put aside a day to be refreshed and to prepare.

The day will consist of teaching sessions from our guest speaker, times of sung worship and ministry, seminars and time to be together.

Guest Speaker

The Churchwardens and I have invited Matthew Porter, Vicar of The Belfrey Church in York to be our speaker. Matthew is a man of vision, and a gifted and prayerful communicator, who I believe God will use to speak to us as a church at this particular point in our shared life together. Matthew has a passion for God working through His church to bring transformation and revival in the North of England. For more about Matthew have a look at his blog: https://matthewporter.wordpress.com/

Refreshed

Encounter is a chance for us all to have a retreat day, a day set aside to seek God together. To Encounter him through prayer, teaching, sung worship, and each other. Often on Sundays our time is short and we don’t have the chance to dwell in God’s presence and to have extended times of teaching. Encounter is a great opportunity to be refreshed in our walk as disciples of Jesus as we gathe as a community.

Prepare

We have asked Matthew to focus his teaching sessions around ‘Getting Ready’. As we continue to pray that God will bring the right person to be our next vicar, at the right time, I hope this day will be an important part of us preparing well for the next season of life at St Barnabas. We have the opportunity to put this day aside to seek God, as individuals and as a community, asking him to help us get ready for all he wants to do in and through us.

Worship

Sung worship will play a key part in the day. Musicians from across our Sunday services have kindly agreed to lead our sung worship. This will allow us to reflect the diversity of our worshipping life at St Barnabas, as we gather together as a church for the Encounter Day.

Practical

The day will run from 10am-4pm. A full timetable will be available soon. We will eat lunch together, please bring a packed lunch.

We are planning to provide a crèche area and children’s activities during the day. Details will be made available as soon as plans have been finalised.

I believe Encounter is going to be a significant day in the life of our church, so please make every effort to join us if you can.
