Church Prayer Meetings

Tuesday Morning: We meet to pray every Tuesday morning at 7am in the Supper Room in the Church Hall. There is tea and coffee on arrival to help wake us up! We read a Psalm together, sing a worship song and pray about the current issues in the life of the church and beyond. The Tuesday morning prayer meeting ends at 7.40am to allow people to get to work.

Saturday Morning: The Saturday Prayer meeting is held in the narthex at the back of church and begins at 9.00am and lasts for an hour. We begin with a bible reading, worship and a short time of reflection seeking the presence of the Holy Spirit to guide us. We pray for situations in the world, in this country and locally. We spend time praying for St Barnabas Church, for the Sunday services and for any particular needs of the church or individuals.

Prayer Ministry

Prayer Ministry is available at the end of church services in an area at the front of the church. St Barnabas Church offers an opportunity for those attending church services to seek prayer for a need for themselves or for someone they are concerned about, or to give thanks for God’s blessings in their life. Members of the Prayer Ministry Team are trained, accountable and follow the church’s policy on Prayer Ministry. Team members are authorised by the Vicar and they meet together regularly to pray for this ministry.

Pastoral Prayer

Pastoral Prayer may be requested by those who would like an opportunity to have an extended time of prayer and to talk in more detail about their problems. An appointment would be arranged to meet with two members of this team who will spend time with you in prayer and listening to God. Please contact us or ask a member of the Prayer Ministry Team to refer you to the Prayer Ministry Team Leader who will discuss this further with you.

Listening Ministry

We have a team of trained listeners who have been trained by the Acorn Christian Foundation. If you need someone to talk to who will listen and respect what you say, this may be the right help for you. The team of Listeners use active reflective listening skills. They are supervised and receive on-going training. Please contact us, ask a member of the Prayer Ministry Team or one of the Clergy who will refer you to the Listening Team Leader.

“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us – whatever we ask – we know that we have what we asked of Him.” 1 John 5:14-15
