Thank you to all those who prayed and gave towards the recent Give Day, it was a great success! A group of about 20 of us spent the afternoon of Sunday 13th May out serving 2 families who live within walking distance of the church.
At the first house the team decorated a large living/dining room for a mum and her 2 young children. As well as doing a great job of the painting (some of the team stayed till after 9pm to make sure it all got done properly), the team also completed various DIY jobs such as putting up a curtain rail and new curtains, and giving furniture a make over with furniture paint. The end result was a transformed room.
The second house was a family that the Streetlights team had met when they were out knocking on doors in the parish, telling people about the church. At this house, one team tackled the garden, pulling out lots of weeds from the front and back yard, putting down artificial grass, and taking several car loads of rubbish to the tip. Inside, another team decorated the girls’ bedroom, painting and wallpapering to brighten up the room.
In the evening, instead of our usual service, we gathered back at church for a shared meal, and swapped stories about what we’d done in the day. We worshipped God and prayed for the families we’d met that afternoon, and others facing similar challenges across our town.
It was a privilege to be welcomed into two local homes, and to be able to serve them practically for the afternoon. Our hope and prayer is that our small gesture will speak of God’s love and care for the families we met for a long time to come.
